Advent Devotional December 11: Written by Kenneth Chafin in 1977

Christmas is a very special time of the year for everyone. There is so much color and music and laughter and festivity. At South Main Baptist Church there are so many enjoyable activities during Christmas sponsored by a host of various groups.

This little book was designed as a Christmas gift to you and your family to give guidance to your devotional life during the Advent season. All the contributors are your fellow church members ranging from Kenneth Kolter who is 10 to Jesse Young who is 92. Each page has a scripture passage, a brief thought, and a prayer along with autobiographical description of the person who wrote it. Also, Betty Thomas has prepared two special pages of ideas which will help involve children at Christmas.

I think we would all be helped if every family unit (whether you are the only one in your family or there are a dozen) would set aside a time of devotional each day of December. Place the book where you are most apt to see it - dresser, kitchen table, desk. Set a time which best suits your schedule. Read the scripture, comment, and prayer and let them be a catalyst for your own thoughts.

One of the verses out of the Christmas story that I so often remember which describes Mary, the mother of Jesus, says, ?Mary kept all these things in her heart and pondered them.? Along with all the other things involved with Christmas, let us make it a time for reflecting upon God's grace in our lives.
