I loved my Grandma Murray and visiting her with my Dad. Going to her home was a delight because she always made me feel loved. Christmastime was special because my Dad's grandma lived right behind my Grandma Murray's home. One year I was excited because I was finally old enough to visit her and meet the baby.
I knew my Dad's grandma had a special kind of manger she kept during the Christmas holidays. My Grandma Murray explained to me that the baby in the manger was a life-sized baby and that I wasn't to touch it or ask any questions. I was to behave like I was in church. Both my grandma and my Dad's grandma were religious and always had love in their hearts for family and friends. I do remember that Grandma Murray would teach, ?we must wait in silence.? She would also teach that ?God comes to us more than we go to Him.? I still think about this, to wait in silence.
I am so grateful for the memories of my childhood, of visiting the infant baby Jesus, and watching both grandmas with pride as the Advent season came into their homes. Later, as an adult, I would have a small nativity set in my home and with much joy would tell my daughters the story of how our Savior was born over 2,000 years ago in Bethlehem. From a little infant baby would come a mighty promise from God. The anticipation of Christmas morning was the best present that was ever given to man.
Father God, thank you for loving us, for Your holy scriptures, and for sending Your only begotten Son. Thank you for the Holy Spirit that dwells within my soul. Amen.
