COVID-19 Advisory Task Force Update: September 27, 2020

Published September 29, 2020 by SMBC

South Main family,

As you heard at the end of today's virtual Sunday worship service, the COVID-19 Advisory Task Force is pleased to recommend that South Main moves to Reopening Phase Four on Sunday, October 11, which includes the resumption of in-person worship.

This is an announcement we have been longing to make for many months, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as our church family has navigated these uncertain times. Click here to view Pastor Steve's video announcement about this exciting news.

This decision is based on the continued improvement of Houston's COVID-19 situation, best expressed in the Texas Medical Center's daily updates located here. We have been heading in the right direction for several weeks, and now that Labor Day has come and gone without a significant uptick in cases, we believe community spread of COVID-19 is sufficiently under control to move to this next step.

While we are enthusiastic about this development, we all, as a congregation, need to acknowledge that the South Main worship experience over the next several months will be different from what we are used to. We are greatly appreciative of the South Main ministers and staff who have meticulously prepared the logistical details to ensure the safest in-person worship possible. However, it will be different.

More details about what to expect on Sunday mornings, along with an explanation of the registration process will be shared in communications in the coming days.

Going forward

As we've stated before, we've been moving through these phases as it was safe to do so; however, if conditions in the Houston area deteriorate, a step back in the process may be required.

For those in our congregation who may be in vulnerable populations, or are simply uncomfortable with returning to church activities, we continue to fully encourage and support your decision to stay home and stay connected online for now.

The Task Force expresses our appreciation for your continued prayerful support as we, and the entire South Main family, navigate these unprecedented days.

Sincerely,

South Main's COVID-19 Advisory Task Force
