MainKids University 2021 Recap

Published July 1, 2021 by SMBC

Twenty-five MainKids attended MainKids University on the South Main Baptist Church campus this past week on a quest to discover the unique plan and path that God has for their life. The verse from Jeremiah 29:11 was their guide "'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord. 'Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.'"

Students participated in intramural games, chapel, and various core classes like Culinary Arts, Crazy Fun Science and Engineering, NASA Astronaut Training and Needlecraft. Children were divided into four fraternities which they named themselves: The Ice Dragons, The Warlocks, The Riddle Wolf Squad and The Red Cheetahs. Each fraternity made their own cheer and sign which they carried with them around the campus from course to course. Each fraternity took turns organizing and leading chapel each day. And everyone's favorite "Goof Off Time" was full of dodge ball and tag in the gym.

The Commencement Ceremony and Worship Service was held in the sanctuary on Friday to bring the week-long semester to a close. Current students led special worship music which they had learned in the university, and youth alumni led in prayer, hymn conducting and ceremony celebrations. The commencement ended with the traditional celebration of the "Tossing of Mortarboard Hats".

Laughter, singing and cheers were ringing through the halls this past week as the the university was in session. And the provost and dean would Iike to thank the numerous youth and adult volunteers who helped to make the 2021 university experience outstanding. Now that the week has ended, one might wonder who had more fun...the children, the youth or the adults?

Congratulations to the MKU Class of 2021. We are proud of the God-given gifts you have discovered this week!
