South Main Baptist Church

Each year, thousands of people from around the world travel to Houston for specialized care at the Texas Medical Center (TMC).  While their primary concerns are related to their medical care, patients or their families also need a place to live while they are in Houston.  South Main Baptist Church has joined with other churches to offer affordable furnished apartments for short-term rental to patients.  This coalition is called InSpirit Patient Housing.  Each InSpirit member church leases, furnishes, and manages its own apartments, yet we share a website, www.inspirithousing.org, where patients can learn more about the ministry and apply for an apartment.

Sojourn House is the informal name for South Main’s apartment ministry.  Compassionate and caring South Main members have sustained this ministry on a volunteer basis for more than 40 years.  In addition to offering affordable lodging, the Sojourn House Friends organization cares for our guest families with prayer support, a listening ear, local knowledge, and other assistance.

 South Main leases several one-bedroom apartments at Weston Medical Center Apartments, an apartment complex about 1 mile west of TMC.  Apartments are fully furnished and equipped, including Wi-Fi and Internet, and cable television.  Residents are charged a very reasonable daily rate.  Most expenses of maintaining our apartments are covered by rental income, but we rely on donations from others for the remaining costs.
