Infants to Preschool (3 and 4 year olds)

In the Family Ministry, one of our strongest desires is for even our youngest ones to sense that God loves them and that church is a good place to be. Embracing and caring for your child’s physical needs in a safe environment, surrounded by loving adults who demonstrate Christ’s love, are what matter most at this stage.

We strive to instill these basic truths:

  • God made me.
  • Jesus loves me.
  • I belong to the family of God.
  • The Bible tells me who God is and how He loves me.

In each room, you will find teachers who have served our little ones faithfully every week for years. Most often, you will see these caretakers rocking children, playing on the floor with them, or playing music for them.

Safety is one of our core values throughout the Family Ministry, which we hope is apparent in all that we do. Every teacher has passed a background check and completed annual training on the South Main Baptist Church Child Protection Policy. In addition, one or more teachers in each room is CPR-certified.

Frequently Asked Questions

When can I bring my baby to the nursery for the first time?

Parents are welcome to bring their baby after the first round of immunizations.

Is there a place for me to nurse my child?

We have a beautiful, private room for nursing mothers with big comfy chairs, music, Boppies, plenty of water, and magazines for that home-away-from-home feel. The Mother’s Room is located next to the Nursery, with a “front” door located in the Gathering Area at the end of the MainKids hall, and a second door connecting directly to the nursery.

What should I bring when I drop off my child?

For infants and toddlers, a bag with diapers, extra clothes, bottles, and food are all you need to bring. Each classroom has a small refrigerator to store milk. And please, please, LABEL all bags and bottles.

What if my child needs me?

If you are a nursing mom and your baby is hungry, we will contact you on the cell phone number you have provided. We will also contact you on your cell phone if your child is not feeling well or is inconsolably upset. Please keep your phone on vibrate during Sunday School and worship. If we are unsuccessful in reaching you by phone, we will come find you.

What safety measures are in place at drop off and pickup?

All children must be checked in and receive a security sticker with a corresponding guardian receipt before they can be dropped off. Children will only be released to an adult who presents the corresponding guardian receipt (physical or photo).

What happens during the Bible Study hour?

Preschoolers play, learn, and sing during Sunday School.
